“What Stuck With Me From TedxBroadway 2014”

Last week, a few Goldstar employees attended TEDxBroadway 2014. So we asked them to tell us what especially struck a chord with them from the conference. Here’s one response from Kimi Yuen, senior venue relations manager for New York:

I’m an Instagram-aholic. I love theater, but my experience isn’t complete without checking in on Facebook. Even though I turn off my electronic devices during a show, as soon as intermission comes I have an uncontrollable urge to check my iPhone. What if digital interaction at the theater was encouraged instead of punished?

marquee-closeup-thumbIn his TEDxBroadway talk last week, Dexter Upshaw, digital media manager for the Apollo Theater in Harlem, said because people are now connected 24/7, encouraging and integrating digital interaction will lead to more engaged and loyal theatergoers. At the Apollo, audience members are encouraged to download the Amateur Night mobile app and interact with the show.

Dexter’s advice to Broadway? We have to stop thinking about digital LAST.
