#TBT: #GoodluckBobby (Video)

Happy #TBT. To celebrate, we’re sharing an oldie-but-goodie post from Jim. When this post of Bobby Lopez speaking — and singing “Let It Go” — at TEDxBroadway 2014 went live on February 28, he hadn’t won his EGOT (Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony) yet. And then that Sunday, he scored his Tony for Best Original Song for “Let It Go” from Frozen, making him the only person to win all four within a decade. Jim tells us the TEDxBroadway team is …

In Case You Missed It

Each week we gather up a handful of stories we think are worth a read. And now, in case you missed them … It sounds crazy, but it’s true: Sometimes people prefer to pay more. Goldstar CEO Jim McCarthy explains why here. Good news! The San Diego Opera will not be closing after all. The board of directors has rescinded a vote to close the company and they just announced their 2015 season. Read more from Angela Carone at KPBS …

In Case You Missed It

Each week we’ll share a collection of articles we think are well worth reading. And now, in case you missed them … • Crain’s reported that eight New York City arts organizations are launching an alliance this summer called Audience 360, which “will allow members to get a better grasp on their own base, share ticket buyer information with each other and collect data that can be used to champion the overall arts community.” Read about it here. • Derek Thompson …

#GoodluckBobby

Our first video from this year’s TEDxBroadway is up! It’s Bobby Lopez talking (and singing) about his transformation as a songwriter, which would be good enough, but there’s more. He’s nominated for an Oscar, and Sunday’s the big day. It also happens that he SINGS that certain, very well-known and frequently covered song in this very video! So what I want you to do besides watch this is to tweet it, post it, tumblr it, whatever, and wish him luck! …

Bobby Lopez Sings Smash Hit “Let It Go” From “Frozen” at TEDxBroadway

Yesterday was an inspiring day at TEDxBroadway. Just one of the highlights was Bobby Lopez singing “Let It Go,” which he wrote for the hit Disney film Frozen. The Tony, Emmy, Grammy and possible Oscar-winning (we’ll know March 2) songwriter also treated everyone to some oldies but goodies. As Ken Davenport, one of the creators of TEDxBroadway, tweeted, “Bobby Lopez is singing songs he wrote as a teenager. And they are better than half of the stuff I’ve heard on …

“Frozen” Songwriter’s On Fire at TedxBroadway 2014

TEDxBroadway 2014 speaker Bobby Lopez is on fire right now! And, ironically, it’s all because of Frozen. Not only is his song “Let It Go” sweeping the nation, but the show is now destined to appear on Broadway. He must feel like Pacino in The Godfather, Part III, where as soon as his work leaves Broadway, “they keep pulling him back in!” In this case, though, it’s a very good thing! I’ve been privy to his thoughts about his TEDxBroadway …

Robert Lopez at TEDxBroadway 2014: He Writes the Songs

Songwriter Robert Lopez has a gift for amusing both kids and adults. Since the day he wrote his first song at age 7, he’s picked up three Tony Awards (Avenue Q, The Book of Mormon), two Daytime Emmys (Nickelodeon’s Wonder Pets) and a Grammy. What may have started as an impressive talent for creating songs for puppets and cartoons launched Lopez into the spotlight as one of the collaborators of the mega-successful Broadway phenomenon, The Book of Mormon. Lopez found …
