TEDxBroadway Is Better Than Practical, It’s Powerful
Once upon a time, a promising college student took a highly impractical course in calligraphy. Maybe Underwater Basket Weaving wasn’t available.
But because he did, you’re not reading this in IBM Selectric Font. The student, as many of you know, was Steve Jobs, and the class taught him about fonts and the potential beauty of the written word. A few years later, computers changed forever.
When you come to TEDxBroadway, it’s not so much about getting 1.7% better at your daily work tasks. The day isn’t really focused on squeezing a little more productivity out of you in accomplishing your to-do list tomorrow.
In that sense, it’s impractical.
But in another sense, what happens at TEDxBroadway has far more impact. You’ll encounter people and ideas all day long. You won’t just hear our speakers talk, but you’ll meet them in person. Not just that, but you’ll
meet your fellow audience members, who are just as interesting as the speakers! You might pull a single idea from one speaker that enables you to make a career breakthrough, or meet somebody you’ll work with for the rest of your life.
In the six years we’ve done this event, we’ve met so many people who’ve come to us with stories about how TEDxBroadway has changed their lives and set them on a new course. Sometimes it took years for the concepts to explode in their minds and sometimes it was right away, but when we hear people describe the impact, we can’t help but feel proud.
Ideas and people are what TEDxBroadway is all about, and ideas and people also happen to be what powers today’s economy. Connecting you with some of the freshest, most ambitious ideas and some of the smartest, most forward-looking people in the Broadway ecosystem, that’s what we do.
We think that’s better than just practical! It’s powerful.
So, if you don’t have your tickets, you can still get them now. Invite any friends or colleagues who you think could make valuable contributions to the conversation. We can’t wait for you to become part of the TEDxBroadway community.
