TEDxBroadway 2015 Video: Phoebe Robinson
Editor’s note: Jim curates TEDxBroadway each year, working with the speakers on their presentations and helping them to answer the question: “What’s the best Broadway can be?” Below is his insight into the process, so you can find out exactly how this informative and inspiring day comes together.
As a business person, I see a lot of bullet points. So many, in fact, that I wish I’d bought stock in bullet points when I was younger.
But I’ve never laughed at one until I met Phoebe Robinson.
As she was getting her thoughts together on what she’d say on stage, she sent me this:
- I was so into NYC that around the age of 13, I decided that I was going to move to NYC, marry Robert De Niro, become a power couple, and win all the Oscars. And I was convinced that this plan was failproof because I knew he was into black chicks, so I was in.
Which I nominate for the Oscar for Best Bullet Point.
Phoebe’s talk is short, funny and makes some strong points. Stick around ’til the Q&A, when I put her on the spot to give me something practical that can be done about casting a wider array of people on stage and screen. It’s totally on the spot, but she nailed it.
