TEDxBroadway 2015 Video: Kirsten Sabia
Editor’s note: Jim curates TEDxBroadway each year, working with the speakers on their presentations and helping them to answer the question: “What’s the best Broadway can be?” Below is his insight into the process, so you can find out exactly how this informative and inspiring day comes together.
Booze and bathrooms.
Kirsten’s job is to get people to attend professional golf tournaments, and just like Broadway or any other live entertainment, there are challenges. Going out of your house is damned inconvenient! Sure, it’s a ton of fun, but how do you convince people to part with a lot of money and spend the time with you?
For Kirsten and the PGA Tour, the focus has been as much on the experience of going to a golf tournament as the tournament itself. Did I mention booze and bathrooms? It turns out that if you give people a drink and a clean, air-conditioned restroom, they like it! Oh, and food that’s not an afterthought.
Ever stood in a line for the bathroom during intermission at a Broadway show and had a similar thought? Sure, you have.
Kirsten is one of the speakers that comes from well outside the world of Broadway, but what she’s got to say is startlingly relevant to Broadway and beyond.
