TEDxBroadway 2015 Video: Emily Simoness
Editor’s note: Jim curates TEDxBroadway each year, working with the speakers on their presentations and helping them to answer the question: “What’s the best Broadway can be?” Below is his insight into the process, so you can find out exactly how this informative and inspiring day comes together.
Emily was the first speaker to ask me exactly when she’d be speaking at TEDxBroadway, and I had just finished and finalized the lineup.
“You’re last,” I said. “I’m sorry.”
Not that being last is a bad thing. On the contrary, being named the last speaker of the day out of 20 or so speakers is a real vote of confidence. You’re the anchorwoman! The one who’s going to bring us home strong!
I just knew the story couldn’t miss. Emily Simoness started as an actress in New York, dreamed of becoming Anna Paquin someday, but instead runs Space on Ryder Farm. We talked about her presentation a bunch of times, and it shifted back and forth a bit, but I heard the confidence in her voice when she said, “I’ve got it. It’s about following the path, not the plan.”
This has been the most popular talk on YouTube from TEDxBroadway so far, and a lot of fun. Emily, thanks for going last, but definitely not least.
