Spotlight On … fireWALL Dance Theater

How do you rewrite the cliché story of dancers running off to New York and Los Angeles once they finish school? You create your own company to support a growing local dance scene.

Sara Bauknecht at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette recently featured three such fledgling companies that are making moves in the Pittsburgh area.

One of the companies is fireWALL Dance Theater, run by the same wife-and-husband team behind Off the Wall Productions theater company. According to the article, “The mission of the company is to ‘take things further’ than just traditional modern dance by incorporating a theatrical, even European, at times, aesthetic into the dancers’ work.” Its latest show, Admission, celebrates female empowerment and starts this Friday at Off The Wall Performing Arts Center in Carnegie.

Every company counts when it comes to Jim’s idea of: The Importance of Ecosystem.
