Editor’s note: Before we once again ask, “What Is the Best Broadway Can Be?” on Monday, February 22, we’re asking our TEDxBroadway 2016 speakers to tell us a little more about themselves.
DJ Kurs is the artistic director of Deaf West Theatre, a position he has held since 2012. He shepherded the production of Spring Awakening from its beginnings in a 99-seat theatrer in Los Angeles to its revival on Broadway. Prior to his current position, he served as an artistic associate and ASL Master at Deaf West Theatre.
He is also a freelance producer and filmmaker.

Big Words. I use it all the time to communicate with people who don’t know ASL.

The Phantom of the Opera.

Phyllis Frelich in Children of a Lesser God.
What’s No. 1 on your bucket list?
Producing a movie or a TV series that would be an accurate reflection of deaf culture.
