This afternoon at TEDxBroadway 2014, Freestyle Love Supreme treated everyone to a taste of their popular hip-hop improv stage show, where five performers invite audience suggestions and then drum up instantaneous riffs and fully realized musical numbers. The New York Times called the group, “Masters in the art of freestyle rhyme.”

Anthony Veneziale conceived of this extremely talented collective of improvisers, composers, lyricists, actors, musicians, a beatboxer, tech nerd and singer-songwriter — and Lin-Manuel Miranda and Thomas Kail, the composer-lyricist and director of the Tony-winning musical In the Heights, created the show, which has been successful around the world.

If you weren’t at TEDxBroadway today, the group’s first-ever half-hour TV special is being filmed at Joe’s Pub in New York City on March 6 and airing March 8 at 10:00pm on Pivot.tv.
