Celebrating 10 Years of The Goldstar National Nutcracker Award

Goldstar has announced the nominees for the 10th Annual Goldstar National Nutcracker Award. The only award that honors live performances of The Nutcracker nationwide is celebrating its 10th year along with a new milestone — the most nominated productions ever. There are 80 in total.

From well-known ballet companies like the San Francisco Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and the three-time Goldstar National Nutcracker Award-winning Joffrey Ballet to the California Ballet Company’s toddler-, autism- and sensory-friendly performances, this year’s nominees showcase the wide variety of Nutcrackers across the country.

Nutcracker performances, like nuts, now come in all shapes, sizes and in many different flavors. Even within the ballet world, Nutcrackers are set in different eras, can feature historical characters or have some other new twist,” says Goldstar CEO, Jim McCarthy. “There are also a ton of Nutcracker productions that are plays, hip-hop retellings, musicals, burlesque shows and modernly modern interpretations. The Goldstar National Nutcracker Award celebrates all of these productions, and will declare just one of them the ‘best loved’ Nutcracker in the U.S.”

The winner of the Goldstar National Nutcracker Award is determined by audience ratings from people who attended 2016 Nutcracker productions through Goldstar. The show with the highest overall rating earns “The Nutty” statuette and a cash prize to go toward the winner’s education program. The winner of this year’s award will be announced on December 21.
